KIDI - Jimmy Stewart Airport The airport terminal has the Riziki restaurant for breakfast and lunch. While you are there, find a way into town (courtesy car or Uber). The Jimmy Stewart Museum is something every pilot should visit. There's even a screening room that runs his movies. Walk the town where he grew up and see the steps from town up to his home. Stewart flew a B-24 on 20 combat missions in WWII.
29D - Grove City Sidewalk to Grove City Outlet Mall (wow, no tax on clothes), Timber Creek Restaurant just outside airport, other restaurants in walking distance
I40 - Coshocton Crew car to Roscoe Village for a nice walk around the village street. Also, a horse towed canal boat ride.
PCW - Port Clinton Liberty Aviation Museum and Tin Goose Diner (note it is closed until Spring 2024).
3W2 - Put In Bay Rent a golf cart and go into town, see Perry's Monument. Right on the centline of runway 03, you won't miss it. Have lunch on the bay!
FKL - Franklin, PA Primo Barone at airport (dinner only), Get crew car to town and dine at Bella Cucina with best food around
BVI - Beaver Valley, PA Air Heritage Museum, Walk north to Sal's Restaurant for some good Italian food
GKJ - Port Meadville Just a short walk south to Eddie's Foot Long Hotdog place (closed until Spring 2024). For a healthier choice and a little walking, try Mandelbroks Cafe and Bakery. Also there's a Walmart, to get more walking exercise.
BTP - Butler Serventi's on The Runway at east end of field in second floor of building overlooking airport.
OWM - St. Mary's The West Wind Restaurant on 2nd floor of FBO building
BFD - Bradford The Runway Bar & Grill in main building overlooking field. Be sure to check out what remains of the Kinzua Bridge on approach to Runway 32
MGW - Morgantown Ali Babba's restaurant in terminal with great Middle Eastern food
DUJ - Dubois The Flight Deck Restaurant in terminal with WWII theme
LBE - Latrobe DeNujnzio's Italian Restaurant in terminal
PA88 - Nemacolin Nemacolin is a private airport with prior permission required by phone and landing. Be sure to check their websit for current status since they close for special events. The resort Chateau is right next to runway. There's a zoo, restaurants, and thing to do. There's no resort or landing fee. They pick you up from the parking ramp at the north end.
4G7 - Fairmount, WV DJ's 1950's diner next to airport. Good for short field practice.
FWQ - Rostraver, PA Go in summer and wander down the rows of hangars. Friendly GA airport tenants. There was a restaurant but it has apparently closed.
PHD - New Philadelphia Park right in front of Magoo's Pizza. In summer, Miller's Creamery has a small outdoor store in walking distance right next to the airport. There's also 5 Barrel Bullet Brewing too.
TSO - Carroll County Carroll Co. Airport Restaurant is a tried and true restaurant open almost every day except holidays. Also, walk north on the Bluebird trail to the park and small covered bridge. There's ocasionally a restaurant in the Bluebird Farm park. Head on north up the gravel road and into town for other choices. BTW, check the waypoints on the RNAV (GPS) RWY 7 instrument procedure.
TZR - Bolton Field J.P.'s Ribs Restaurant. No landing fee at towered airport.
I74 - Urbana Champaign Aviation Museum and Airport Cafe. Frequenct aviation events during the summer.
MFD - Mansfield New restaurant coming to the terminal building replacing the Subway that closed.
AFJ - Washington Co. Airport Restaurant
7G8 - Geauga Co. Great place to stop in on the weekends to see what they are building. Also has EAA Chapter #5.
0OH5 - Freeman Swank Field, Butler, Ohio Long, well kept grass strip. Walk into town.
Airports farther away
EYE - Eagle Creek, IN For a good cross country Rick's Boathouse restaurant is right across the street from the FBO. Excellent food and views of boats in the reservoir.
PMH - Portsmouth, OH Skyline Family Restaurant
SJS - Big Sandy, WV Clout 9 Cafe. Good stop on the way south, or north.
AZO - Kalamazoo, MI The AirZoo is a must see museum. Park right on the ramp in front of the museum.
7N1 - Painted Post, Corning, NY Fly in and get a taxi into Corning, a nice small town. There's the Corning Glass Museum and The Rockwell Museum. It's an easy walk from the downtown hotels for an overnight.
IAG - Buffalo, NY Catch a taxi or Uber to Niagara Falls for the day
RMY - Brooks Field, Marshall, MI Check if Schuler's Restaurant will still pick you up at the airport. Nice town. Great food.
